Topshop 5 Years Anniversary Makeup

So pretty with all the rose gold packaging. I never tried Topshop makeup cause it doesn’t look as appealing in Singapore as when you were in UK. Anyway, I just wanted this collection cause basically it’s Topshop best sellers products. And what better way to try them out then to just get the ones in the pretty packaging.

So I have 3 of the lipsticks, Innocent, Rio Rio, and Bequiled. Am missing Ohh La La, which is a coral pink and Nevada which is a nude. The nail polish I have 2, Boy Next Door and Parma Violet. Missing Heart of Gold, Adrenalin and Green Room. Then I have the rest of the anniversary collection.

So let start with the lipstick.

Innocent is a light pink. Surprisingly, I can wear this with no problem. The color does suit me just fine. It is yore pigmented but you can’t always rub your lips as the colors will not be even. So I have to be uite careful using this. But it’s a good lipstick. A comfortable pink.
Rio Rio is an orange red. Well it is a warm red but I always see an orange undertone. And even on my lips it kind of appear more orange. Pigmented and not n easy lipstick to use. So a lipliner is recommended. This is suppose to be a matte lipstick. But it doesn’t appear to be so. When swatch, it is not shiny, but on the lips it is not matte.
Bequiled is another matte lipstick. But as you can see it is not matte at all. It’s a beauty, but not an easy one. This is definately a good color to use for dinner, but I find that it doesn’t really appear even. It is quite hard to smooth it out. It won’t be as bad in person but  a close up picture, you can see that it is not as clean. A lip liner is a must.
Glow in Polished is a beautiful highlighter. Not a fan of highlighters but I’m glad I got this. The color is just so pretty. A champagne pigmented cream that blends out to a glow sheerness. I thought it is a solid form in the pot. So I just dip my finger in. I end up making a dent cause the product is so soft. I thought it will be like a color tattoo, but no, this is soft and a little goes a long way. The picture doesn’t do justice on how pretty the color is.
Cream blush in Head Over Heels is a beautiful coral pink blush. The perfect blush for the summer. The cream is a nice consistency. It will turn to powder once applied. It blends well and can be sheer out if you think that is too much. Love it.  Magic Liner in Engraved is a felt tip. It’s really dark and easy to apply. I have to barely touch my hand and the ink will flow. It takes about 5 seconds to set. If not it will still smudge. I haven’t really test how long this will last as I am not an eyeliner kind of person.
The nail polishes are average, lovely colours but nothing special. Boy Next Door a pretty light greeny blue. Perfect for the beach to contrast the water. Parma Violet a pretty lilac color which I feel I have a lot of. I need to take 3 coats to get a full swatch in the nails. The brush is thin, but it is ok. They dry quite fast which is good and finished shiny without needing a topcoat. Overall not that bad.

So yah, the collection is a pretty packaging and I just love them. The products I got are alright. The lipsticks I feel can be better, but the rest are good. I am not sure if Sg will have them, as I got mine from London. If buying in £ and living there, the price is good. But if I have to convert them to S$, I feel that they are quite ex. Anyway the shades are not limited edition so if there is something you want to try, you can always get the normal matte black and white packaging which is also quite pretty.

Frontcover Party Queen

I got this for Christmas. I love makeup, so I love receiving makeup kits. This is something I never really heard people talk about. I know they sell this in Sephora, but I just don’t see anyone ever mentioning it.

Winterize Your Nails: The Julep Guide (Plus Mine)

I’ve been busy, I’ve been lazy, I’ve been keeping my nails plain for weeks. If you are my friend, you will know that is not me at all. Nonetheless, I’ve been ignoring nail care for awhile and that is not acceptable. Especially when I just starting to work and the number of people I have to shake hands with is a ton. Thankfully no one cares. I guess I mostly deal with people in the food industry, so having non-painted nails is not a big deal to them.

I would not have paid much attention until I saw an email by a representative of Julep. She brought me back to a time where I was still free to sit down and do whatever I want. I miss that and so I am going to balance my life between beauty, nail art and working adult stuff.

The first will be caring for your nails and hands. Julep call it winterize, I call it Monsoonize?! Okay, ignore that. Singapore doesn’t have winter, we only have sun or rain. Surprisingly, the weather had been cold these past few weeks though, so I guess that count. (Yes, 22 degree C is freezing to us.)

WinterizeYourNails

The Julep how-to, it’s simple enough right? But like me, if you don’t see Julep in your country, then you will need an alternative. So here is my guide:

If you have no time to do anything, bring along a small hand lotion. I like the mini Burt’s Bees Hand Salve. It’s small and really compact, the perfect thing to throw into your purse. You can apply this on the go. As in, anytime and anywhere.
It’s a solid product that melts on your hand. Feels quite oily at first but it’s really moisturizing on the hands. Really good for the cuticles too. Eventually it just looks like you got oily fingers, but you won’t feel the ickiness. From the tube it smells kind of minty, but not that strong and doesn’t really transfer onto the hands.

If you have a bit more time, then you should really do more.

Starting with trimming your fingernails. I mean if it’s winter, you’ll be wearing gloves most of time. It’s better to have shorter fingernails. I like to cut them with nail clipper, but still leaving an inch or so. Then I’ll file them using a glass filer, smoothing out the edges.

Then, I use Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover. Just apply on cuticles and under nail tips, wait 15 seconds and push back cuticles using an orange stick. Really love this. It’s easy to use and I find that it helps in getting rid of excess cuticles. They say it’s not good to get rid of cuticles completely. But my cuticles can be so messy sometime. So this really helps to keep them in shape.

Next I will always use a nail strengthener. The one I am loving is the Elianto one. Not only I find the bottle pretty, it’s a really good product. It dries fast, harden the nails, making them stronger and adds shine. So if you have no time for a manicure, just use nail strengthener or a base coat. Nails look so polish no one knows it’s actually a treatment.

Lastly, use a hand cream. At home, I am using Burt’s Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Grapeseed Oil Hand Cream. Well I keep trying out new hand cream and I just happen to be using this at the moment. It’s good. Smells like honey, but I do find that it takes sometime to dry.

Now that you have learn the ways to care for your nails, I leave you with Julep’s winter collection.

Pretty huh!? Now if only I can try Julep nail polishes. Hopefully they will venture out to Singapore soon.

2 Days to Xmas: Nail Polishes

We talked about about makeup and skincare, so lets focus on the nails. There are manicure and pedicure sets. There are a mix sets of everything. There are nail polish sets at different prices. I so want the Sephora X. When it comes to nails, it’s pretty much random and anything goes. Last year, I received at least a nail polish from everyone. They know how much I love to play with my nails.

As a nail art lover, I own a lot of nail polishes. Not as much as others, but plenty comparing to regular people. I took a poll of my friends, and on average they own 8 polishes. That’s because less than half of them only own 3 each. Nonetheless, compare to them, I own “hundreds”, 204 to be exact. In my defense, some of them are mini bottles.

So I can roughly imagine what will be great to give for someone “starting out” so to speak. For me it will be a DIY basket. Make your own basket to give them. Inside will include mani pedi stuff, cuticle oil, base and top coats, some colors in different finishes, etc. I will put different brands, so the receiver will be able to see what kind of formula and brushes that she likes.

Below are some ideas. You don’t even need to make a basket. It can be a gift on its own or an add-on. I don’t think Singapore do stocking stuffers.

Thefaceshop Face It Check Check nail kit is a cute full size trio for anyone. It is also the only one I have in its box, cause the box is cute. Anyway the polishes is quite sheer, but the idea of this polishes is to create checkered pattern on the nails. It can be done pretty easily, but your nails may be to small for it to work.

I also received this BK Fashion Color 24 mini (7ml) nail polishes set. It is nice to have many different colors to choose from. The colors are primarily basic. It’s simple and not interesting. Only the metallic silver caught my eyes. There are a few finishes; jelly, shimmer, glitter, cream. I find that I don’t really use it on my own nails. Cause it’s not that eye catching. Then again it’s the mini bottle that doesn’t grab my attention. I tend to neglect all my mini polishes. But I am glad to have them, cause they are really helpful for nail art.

As a single nail polish, I think it will be nice to receive something from Butter London, Illamasqua, Chanel, etc. I have Deborah Lippmann Marquee Moon which a cool silver metallic with hex glitter. I like the bottle, I like the brand. It’s quite pricey, so it’s a really good gift, or even better as an add-on.

OPI matte top coat is the best matte top coat I’ve ever used. I know OPI sell the top coat sets which contain their 3 types of top coat. So that could be a good gift. Or just get this, as matte top coat is unique. At least it’s different from the regular. A base coat could be added.

Dotting tools is really a simple tool that can make a difference in your plain nails. You can a,ways make it yourself, but having the actual too, just makes you feel more professional. It’s not expensive and it’s great. It comes in a set of 5 with 10 different sizes of dots.
Nail art stickers are great too. Or anything nail art related, like beads or rhinestone. It’s easy to apply, that’s what matter. I know, Ciate sets will be awesome.

Seche Vite dry fast top coat is probably one of the best top coat. I do like it a lot, but I feel there must be something better out there. But for now, this is one of the best for me. If you are planning to give this to someone, don’t forget to include the Seche Restore. The nail polish thinner really helps to prolong the life of the top coat.

Lastly my favorite. Nail art polishes. These are from Daiso and every time I go there, I will search for them. The brush is real tiny, so it’s great for nail art. It’s the cheapest I found in Singapore. I think I prefer nail art pens, but it’s either too expensive for my liking or not found in Singapore. I never tried them, but they will probably be easier to use. So nail strippers are the next best thing. They say you can use nail art brushes to make the stripes but I find cleaning up really hard. I’ve destroyed enough brushes already. So go to Daiso and find these. I don’t recommend orange and yellow as they are very sheer. But stock up on black and white as they are awesome.

MeMeMe Cosmetics

I won a contest from MeMeMe Cosmetics Singapore Facebook page a few months back. I really wish I won the Top 10 products contest instead, cause its more products. But oh well, I did won! *smiles.

I always wanted to try MeMeMe box blush, and I did not get the chance to get it from the UK. So I am really grateful that I won this contest. It’s like, I’m lucky I did not buy it then. Anyway, this is the content of the bag.

So I got a nail polish, a blush and a gloss. The nail color is a pretty coral nail color. It’s really creamy and need two coats to really get them to be opaque. It’s shiny enough without the need to use topcoat. The brush is really wide, which I like. And the polish pretty much is in tack after 4 days, before I had to remove them because of work. So I don’t know how long it can actually last. And without a topcoat too. So it’s really not bad.

Next is Blush Me in coral. It really is a pretty coral. I think I swatch it badly here, in reality its really pigmented. I am almost afraid to use this. As I just swipe it once across my cheek, and it made my cheek really bright. A little really goes a long way. You have to lightly tap your brush onto the blush in order to use this. The blush is also very soft to the touch. But because it is in a box, it is not as nice using your fingers as other kind of packaging.
But I still like the packaging. It is cute like the benefit box blushes. It has a mirror which is nice. The brush that came with it is also not bad. It is dense, but really soft. I don’t know why they make it so dense when the blush itself is already so pigmented. It is not magnetize though, so you cant really bring it out. The cover can just fall out anytime. I guess that’s the only down side. Other than that, I am liking this new addition to my blush collection.

Thank you MeMeMe Singapore for having the contest. If you are in Singapore and wanting to try out MeMeMe, you can purchase them online here. Alternatively you can check out Carmine Avenue Facebook page.
